Who can apply

Basic eligibility for adults.

  • ✓ You're a permanent resident, and your status isn't in question.
  • ✓ You've been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the 5 years before you apply.
  • ✓ You've filed income taxes, if required, for at least 3 of those 5 years.
  • ✓ You meet the language requirement (CLB 4 in speaking and listening) and pass the citizenship test, if you're 18 to 54.
  • ✓ Nothing prohibits you from being granted citizenship.

The day count

Most refusals come down to the numbers.

A miscounted trip or a missed absence is one of the most common reasons citizenship applications go wrong. We check every day before you file.

Every absence counted

We reconcile your travel history against your records so the dates you declare match what IRCC can see.

Pre-PR time credited

Time in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person within the 5-year window can count as half-days, up to 365 days.

Ask a consultant
Does time before I became a PR count?

Some of it can. Time in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person within the 5-year window counts as half-days, up to a maximum of 365 days. We calculate it precisely.

I travel a lot. Do I qualify?

Possibly. You need 1,095 days of physical presence in the 5 years before you apply. We confirm your count before you file, to avoid a refusal on a day-count error.

Do I have to take the test?

Applicants aged 18 to 54 take the citizenship test and must show language ability at CLB 4. Applicants outside that age range don't.

Can my children apply with me?

Yes. Minor children can be included in a family application, and the requirements for them are different from adults'.

Will I lose my other citizenship?

Canada allows dual citizenship, but your other country may not. Check with that country's authorities.
